Who owns Versace? Prada Group, since December 2, 2025, and what it has reported since
By Yash Malviya·
Prada Group owns Versace: it completed the purchase from Capri Holdings on December 2, 2025. Here is who runs the house, what it earned in the first half of 2026, and who designs it now.
Versace is owned by Prada Group. The Milan-listed luxury group announced on December 2, 2025 that it had completed the acquisition from Capri Holdings, the NYSE-listed company that had owned Versace before it. Capri's own filing confirms the same date. Everything below is dated and traced to one of those documents, because the ownership question is easy to get wrong when older articles still describe Versace as a Capri brand.
The short answer, with the date
Prada S.p.A. said in a press release dated Milan, December 2, 2025 that it "today announces the successful completion of the acquisition of Versace from Capri Holdings (NYSE:CPRI), after having received all required regulatory clearances." That is the whole announcement; the release gives no price and no other terms.
Capri's side of the record is a filing. Its first quarter fiscal 2027 release, dated London, August 5, 2026, says the company and Prada had entered into a Stock Purchase Agreement under which Prada agreed to acquire the subsidiaries operating Capri's Versace business. It then states: "On December 2, 2025, the Company completed the sale of its Versace business." Capri now reports Versace as discontinued operations, which is why it no longer appears in its brand results.
What Prada Group owns
Prada's own description of the group lists the brands it owns: Prada, Miu Miu, Church's, Car Shoe, Versace, the historic Pasticceria Marchesi and Luna Rossa. It says the group operates through a network of 620 stores in more than 70 countries, and that at June 30, 2025 it had 25 owned factories and 15,529 employees, a count that excludes Versace. So the group's own scale figures predate the deal and should not be read as including the house.

Who runs Versace now
Lorenzo Bertelli is executive chairman of Versace, according to ANSA's report of February 5, 2026, which says he announced the new designer. The design role has turned over quickly. ANSA reports that Dario Vitale, who joined less than a year earlier when Donatella Versace stepped down, left in December, days after the Prada acquisition was finalized.
“In a geopolitical and macroeconomic scenario that remained turbulent, we continued to execute with rigour.”
On February 5, 2026, Versace named Pieter Mulier chief creative officer. ANSA says the Belgian designer was creative director of Alaia at the time and would take over the role on July 1. We checked the date against the news agency's report, not a Versace release, because we could not open one. Quoting Bertelli, ANSA reports: "We are confident that he will be able to fully express Versace's potential."
Our tracker of creative director changes follows the next steps, including when Mulier's first collection is due to show; none of the sources we opened gives that date.
What Versace earned in the first half of 2026
Prada's half-year release of July 30, 2026 is the first look at Versace's numbers inside the group. It says Versace "progressed in line with expectations, contributing to the semester with Net Revenues of 305 mln" euros. It also reports an adjusted EBIT of 530 million euros, an adjusted EBIT margin of 17.4% including Versace and currency effects, and a net debt position of 693 million euros.
The release marks the margin comparison carefully. It shows a steady adjusted margin on an organic basis, against 22.6% in the first half of 2025, where organic data exclude Versace. In plain terms, the reported margin of 17.4% is lower than the 22.6% a year earlier, and the release attributes the headline figure to Versace and currency effects together without splitting them. The release does not give a Versace profit figure, so any claim about how profitable the house is today goes beyond the document.
What the price was, and what we cannot say
Neither document we opened states a price. Prada's completion release gives none, and Capri's quarterly release treats Versace as discontinued operations without naming a sum in the passages we read. Any figure you see for the deal comes from reports at the time of the agreement, which we could not tie to a primary document, so we do not repeat one here.
Capri's accounts show one consequence. Its August 5, 2026 release reports cash of 114 million dollars, borrowings of 338 million and net debt of 224 million dollars as of June 27, 2026, against 1.5 billion dollars as of June 28, 2025. The release does not itemize what drove the drop, and the Versace sale closed in between, so connecting the two is a reasonable inference, not a stated fact.
How to read older ownership claims
Any page that calls Versace a Capri brand is out of date, as is any brand list that includes it under Capri. Capri's own site now says it owns Michael Kors and Jimmy Choo. The house also had a spell under a different, short-lived design lead, so check the date on anything that names Versace's designer.
Our take
Versace is Prada's, completely, since December 2, 2025, and the evidence is two documents that agree. The half-year number is the first useful proof of scale, and it is respectable but it is not a profit figure. What we would watch is Mulier's first collection and the first full year of Versace in Prada's annual report. What we would skip is any ownership claim that cites a price without a filing behind it.
Frequently asked questions
Who owns Versace?
Prada Group owns Versace. Prada S.p.A. announced on December 2, 2025 that it had completed the acquisition from Capri Holdings after receiving all required regulatory clearances. Capri's own August 5, 2026 release confirms it completed the sale of its Versace business on December 2, 2025.

How much did Prada pay for Versace?
Neither Prada's completion release nor Capri's quarterly release, as we read them, states a price. We could not tie any published figure to a primary document, so we do not give one.
Who is Versace's creative head now?
Pieter Mulier was named chief creative officer on February 5, 2026 and was due to start on July 1, 2026, per ANSA. He succeeded Dario Vitale, who left in December 2025.
How much does Versace earn for Prada Group?
Prada reports Versace contributed 305 million euros of net revenues to the first half of 2026. The release does not give a Versace profit figure.
Is Versace still an Italian company?
Yes in the sense that matters for ownership: its parent, Prada S.p.A., is headquartered in Milan, per the release's dateline. Under Capri, whose release is datelined London, it was not.
