Lululemon adds former product chief Tara Poseley to its board under the Chip Wilson agreement
By Yash Malviya·
lululemon named Tara Poseley, its chief product officer from 2013 to 2015, an independent director effective October 19, 2026. The seat follows the May cooperation agreement with founder Chip Wilson.
lululemon has added Tara Poseley, its own chief product officer from 2013 to 2015, to its board of directors. The company announced the appointment on October 22, 2026, and said it took effect on October 19. The board now has 13 directors, 12 of them independent. The appointment traces back to a cooperation agreement the company signed with founder Chip Wilson on May 26, 2026.
What lululemon announced
The October 22 press release names Poseley an independent director. It lists more than 30 years in specialty retail, apparel and beauty. She was CEO of Paula's Choice Skincare from 2016 to 2023, senior vice president and president of Kmart Apparel from 2010 to 2013, and began her career at Gap Inc., where she spent nearly 15 years in senior product and marketing roles. She holds a bachelor's degree in retail management from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and sits on several private company and nonprofit boards.
The release does not name committee assignments, and it does not say who recommended her. Retail Dive reported on October 23, 2026 that she joined on Monday, which matches the October 19 effective date in the company's own text.
The agreement behind the seat
The seat makes sense only against the May deal. In a May 27, 2026 release, lululemon said it had reached an agreement with Wilson, who owns about 8.7 percent of the common stock. Under it, Laura Gentile, a former ESPN chief marketing officer, and Marc Maurer, a former co-CEO of On, would join the board after the 2026 annual meeting of shareholders. The company also agreed to appoint one more director with apparel product and brand expertise by October 1, 2026, without naming that person.
Poseley fits that description. One gap is worth stating plainly: the May release set October 1 as the target, and the October release gives October 19 as the effective date. Neither document explains the difference, and we did not find a company statement that does. Retail Dive describes the October 1 date as a requirement; the May release we read words it as the company's agreement to make an appointment by that date.
“Tara brings deep product expertise and understands what makes lululemon special.”

What Wilson agreed to
The May release lists the other side of the bargain. Wilson accepted customary standstill, non-disparagement and voting provisions that run about 18 months, until 30 days before the nomination deadline for the 2028 annual meeting. The company said the full agreement would be filed with the SEC on Form 8-K. In place of the expense reimbursement that often follows a settlement, the release says a donation would support athletics, art and landscaping at Kitsilano Beach in Vancouver.
The same release says lululemon filed a Schedule 14A proxy statement and a white proxy card for the 2026 annual meeting, and that Eric Hirshberg met with the board during the process and was among those who stood for election as directors. It does not describe vote counts or other contest details, so we do not either.
The quotes
Three people are quoted in the October release. Marti Morfitt, the board chair, said: "Tara brings a distinctive combination of creative instinct and product expertise." Poseley said: "I am honored to join lululemon's Board at this pivotal time for the company." Wilson, the founder, said: "Tara brings deep product expertise and understands what makes lululemon special."
Notice the last one. The founder who negotiated the settlement is endorsing the director the company chose under it. The May release already described the settlement as reflecting "meaningful progress toward restoring the company's product-first vision," in Wilson's words. The October appointment is the first visible step toward that stated aim on the board itself.

The timeline in one place
- May 26, 2026: lululemon and Wilson sign the cooperation agreement.
- May 27, 2026: the company announces it, naming Gentile and Maurer and promising one more product director by October 1.
- October 19, 2026: Poseley's appointment takes effect.
- October 22, 2026: the company announces it.
- About 18 months from the agreement: the standstill window closes, 30 days before the nomination deadline for the 2028 annual meeting.
What this does and does not tell you
It tells you the board is now larger and carries more product experience than it did in the spring. Retail Dive reported that the settlement let Wilson add Gentile and Maurer, and he publicly praised Poseley as well. Three directors with ties to that process sit on a 13 seat board. That is a minority, and the company calls 12 of the 13 directors independent.
It does not tell you what the product will look like. The release makes no commitment on designs, categories, pricing or launches, and it gives no financial guidance. A board appointment is governance, not a collection. For the company's most recent product news, see our coverage of the Ganni collaboration launch.
Our take
Treat this as the end of a negotiated process, not the start of a turnaround. The standstill runs for about 18 months, which lowers the odds of another public fight in that window, and the new director has real product credentials on her record. Watch two things: the 8-K that carries the full agreement, and whether the next product launches show any change in direction. We will not predict the stock, and nothing in the filings supports a forecast. The company's own wording is the best guide: the May release speaks of a product first vision, and the October release speaks of product expertise. Whether either shows up on shelves is a question for the next collections, not for this press release.
